We've convinced ourselves that digital is enough.

When did you last get something real from a company? Not an email. Not a push notification telling you that you've earned 340 points. Something physical. Something you actually held in your hands and thought — okay, that's actually nice.

If you're struggling to remember, you're not alone. And that's kind of the point.

And look, it works. Points, cashbacks, e-vouchers — nobody's saying they don't. They're cheap to run, easy to scale, and people do use them.

But here's what they don't do: they don't make anyone feel seen.

There's actually research on this. When people physically hold something, their brain treats it differently — assigns it more value, more meaning. Psychologists call it the endowment effect. It's not a theory, it's just how we're wired.

A screen notification disappears in seconds. Something sitting on your desk? That stays.

And every time someone glances at it, your brand is there. That's not a marketing argument. That's just neuroscience doing its thing.

If you work in HR or marketing, you already know the problem.

You've got people to recognise. Employees who've gone above and beyond. Clients who've been with you for years. Partners you actually want to keep. And you need something that communicates that — without looking like you grabbed the first thing from a gift catalogue.

Because catalogue gadgets? They end up in a drawer. Everyone knows it, nobody says it. A branded pen or a generic tote bag doesn't say "we value you." It says "we had a budget line to spend."

Gift cards are better, sure. But they're also forgettable. There's no story attached to a Mastercard prepaid. Nobody's posting that on LinkedIn.

What actually works is something made for the moment. For the person. Something where the recipient thinks — wait, they actually thought about this.

THREE THINGS DIGITAL CAN'T DO
01

It sticks around

A well-made trophy on a desk, a plaque on an office wall — that's daily brand visibility. Months, sometimes years. No retargeting campaign gets close to that kind of reach over time.

02

It becomes a talking point

"Where's that from?" is a question that gets asked. And then someone tells the story of your event, your company, your values. Word of mouth that you didn't have to engineer.

03

It's personal

Not "personalised" in the sense of an automated email with their first name. Personal as in — this was made for this occasion, for this person. That lands differently. People remember it.

CASE STUDY

Something we've watched happen more than once.

A company we worked with had been handing out diplomas at their annual partner event for years. Nice enough, but nothing people kept.

One year they switched. Trophies instead — wood and metal, with a small moving element that referenced their industry. Each one slightly different depending on the category. Nothing crazy, but clearly made with intention.

The feedback was immediate.

People were photographing them. Posting them. Other partners were asking how to qualify. The trophy became something people talked about — which meant the company became something people talked about.

That wasn't the plan. It just happened, because the award meant something.

How we actually do this at Winmed.

We make bespoke trophies and custom awards. Everything produced in Poland, in-house, with our own machinery. No imported blanks, no standard templates with a logo slapped on.

Every project starts with a conversation. We ask about the occasion, the people receiving it, the feel you're going for, the budget. If you come in without a clear idea — that's fine, genuinely. We'll put a few concepts in front of you and you tell us what direction feels right.

From there, our designer builds out a visual. You can revise as many times as you need. Once you sign off, production starts.

Simpler personalised trophies are typically done in 5 to 6 working days. We work with wood, metal, glass, acrylic, marble — often in combination. Laser engraving, UV print, moving parts, cut-outs. Minimum order is 5 pieces.

If you've got an idea that seems complicated, ask anyway. We've made some genuinely unusual things.

Would they stop and look at it?

If someone who received an award from your company last year walked past it today — would it remind them of something? Would they feel anything?

If the honest answer is probably not, that's worth paying attention to.
