A well-designed medal is more than just an award – it’s a lasting reminder of the event, it evokes emotion and often appears in social media photos. If you want your bespoke medals to be not only attractive but also original and memorable – take a look at the ideas below.

These are proven concepts we’ve already brought to life in our own production. They help events stand out from the crowd and boost participant engagement.

1. Add a magnet

A medal with a magnet can be displayed on a fridge or metal board – it’s a practical and eye-catching way to showcase the achievement. This kind of award doesn’t get hidden away in a drawer – it stays with the owner and serves as a lasting memory of the event.

2. Use moving elements

Some of our medals feature rotating or sliding parts – allowing participants to interact with the medal, which gives it a unique and playful character. This feature grabs attention, sparks curiosity and makes the medal more engaging.

Silver Superheld medal with laurel wreath and central 3D H emblem

3. Choose an unusual shape

You don’t have to stick to classic circles or rectangles. We produce bespoke medals in any shape to suit your event’s theme – for example, a silhouette of an athlete, the outline of a map, or even a sports-related object. It’s an easy way to make your medal instantly distinctive.

4. Add a bottle opener

A medal with a built-in bottle opener is a practical bonus – especially after a race or outdoor competition. It looks great and serves a purpose, which participants truly appreciate.

5. Create a colourful series

Don’t limit yourself to gold, silver and bronze. We produce colourful medals where each version represents a different distance, location or edition of the event. The whole set looks cohesive, yet each medal has its own unique feel. This works perfectly if participants attend multiple events.

Red and pink Deutsche Meisterschaft medals with yellow star design
Set of gold, silver, and bronze Deutsche Meisterschaft medals with star emblem
Green and blue Deutsche Meisterschaft medals with star and orbit design

6. Add cut-out details

Cut-outs (also known as negative space designs) create a striking visual effect – you can cut out a logo, a symbolic shape or part of the pattern. This gives the medal a lighter, more modern look.

Cheetah-themed medal for Runfok 2.0, Békés-Dánfok 2019
Gold medal with EVL 2025 logo and OlyBet Sports Bar branding

7. Choose alternative materials

Besides standard metal, we also make wooden medals, with either printed or engraved designs. These are ideal for eco-friendly or smaller-scale events. Other interesting materials include glass or acrylic, adding a unique touch.

8. Design interlocking medals

If you’re organising a series of events, you can create a puzzle-style set. Each medal is a separate piece that fits together to form a larger image – such as a map, the event name or a running figure. This encourages participants to complete the series and attracts collectors.

9. Use 3D elements

A medal with raised, three-dimensional features looks more premium and professional. 3D elements – such as logos, athlete figures or city symbols – add depth and make the medal stand out in photos.

Airport-themed medal with aeroplane and barbed wire, City Airport Reptér
Knight-themed medal with armour engraving, William the Marshal Cup

10. Make it double-sided

Both sides of the medal can be used creatively. One side can feature the main design, while the other includes the event date, race name, slogan, course map or sponsor logo. This adds value and offers more personalisation options.
